This is Doctor Matt Taylor is an astrophysicist best know for being the Project Scientist on the Rosetta Misison, which just landed (for the first time in history) a probe on a moving comet! He's inked. Last year, NASA asked him to cover his tattoos during a press conference. Questions to Respond To: 1) What do you think of tattoos? 2) Are tattoos an indication of someone's worth, credibility, trustworthiness or criminality? 3) How are tattooed people discriminated against? |

I personally am inked and I love tattoos, I plan to be covered from hear to toe with them. Tattoos are not a way you can define people for trustworthiness because I know a lot of tattooed people and I trust them with my life. Tattooed people are discriminated against because they think we are all scary and criminals or drop outs that are uneducated because of visible tattoos.

I love tattoos, and the art of it. I have two tattoos myself, I just love the artwork and I wanna be my own canvas. In the future I do wanna get more, a sleeve actually. There's no way someone that has tattoos can be judged for what they have on their skin.

I personally love tattoos. I think every tattoo tells a story about your life or a different story about you in general. They are works of art and they hold a ton of thoughts and dreams too and I am definitely going to be getting one as soon as I turn 18. Tattoos do not qualify any of what you're worth or if you're a criminal or not. Like I said, tattoos tell stories, they hold your thoughts and your body is a canvas and you decide how you want to paint it. People are discriminated because they have tattoos because people have thoughts against it like how you're bad if you get them, or they are ugly, or "unprofessional" for your job and I don't think it is right at all. I love hearing what peoples tattoos mean.

I agree. Tattoos are very beautiful and they mark a story. I do not understand how people can be against that.

I like tattoos to a certain extent. I feel like if you want to paint your skin permanently, it should be done with meaning. I do want tattoos in the future, but it will be something that I will think long and hard about. Although I think this, I don't think someone should be judged, criticized, or not given a job because of body markings. I feel like if you don't give someone a job or shaming someone of their tattoos would be like judgement on the clothes they wear. Yes, tattoos are permanent and clothes aren't, but hey, it doesn't affect another person in any way. Like Alissa said, your body is a canvas, you start of clean, and it's your choice on how you want to look like just as it is when someone wears make up. Your choice. The fact that society labels people with tattoos as bad people, it gets me mad because it's society's fault that people think this way. A person running a store might not want to hire someone with tattoos because they don't want customers to think the store doesn't care about who they hire, so they hire someone 'dangerous' or 'bad' or 'not trustworthy.' And you can't really blame the person who runs the store because that's how society makes tattooed people to be. They don't want their store to lose business and get a bad image. But I know a lot of people that have tattoos and are the nicest people I could probably ever meet. They may look different from their tattoos, but they are HUMAN. Just because they have ink on their skin doesn't make them any worse than someone without tattoos. ugh.

The only difference between people with tattoos and people without them is that people with tattoos don't care that you don't have one. Tattoos are beautiful and are used as a way of expressing yourself. The fact that people are discriminated and stereotyped for having tattoos is just so cringe worthy. Just because someone wants to make their body turn too art, has nothing to do with their views or the person they are.

The only way I could see a tattoo being unprofessional is if it's a crude tattoo that can't be covered up (such as a nude woman on your face, as an extreme example) but if it's like a flower on your arm or something that can be covered up while you work (if it's imagery is inappropriate for the job at hand) than it really shouldn't be an issue. What people want on their body is their own business.

I personally don't have a problem with tattoos, and am considering getting some in the future. To me, tattoos are an indication of positive personality traits. Passion, dedication, thought. You have to admire something a lot to print it on your skin. They are not an indication of trustworthiness, credibility, or criminality. Comments are closed.
