No absolutely not because I find that stereotypes have a very very very large influence on people. Say you like something that is stereotypical, and you fit in with a stereotypical group. There is nothing wrong with that at all except when a small stereotype influences your other choices just because you fit in a certain group. It makes you feel like you can't escape this societies idea of you and it diminishes the thought that you will change. In other words it boxes you in which is very is harmfull and it's a very very very hard box it get out of because in truth, no one is actually a walking stereotype. People constantly change and that's a good thing. Stereotypes slow down this change and make you feel extremely trapped.

Stereotypes do not work. Think "gamer" in your head right now. What was the first thought to pop in your head? Some 20 year old in his Mom's basement. Stereotypes do no one favors. It ill represents the group it's for, and gives others an unjust ideal.

Basically, I feel like this is asking "Would you rather be ignored, or made fun of?" To a certain extent, I think being represented as a stereotype is better than not at all, because that's still representation. It is far from the ideal situation, but I think it's better to be visible in some form than not at all. Of course, there are exceptions, such as if a piece of media uses a stereotype for a quick and easy villain, much like modern first person shooters are far too prone to do. I think it's better for a group not to be represented than to be represented in a way that encourages hate, but if a group is represented in a way that isn't necessarily hateful, but is still a stereotype, I think that's better than nothing. I'm going to use early movies (~1990s) that featured gay characters as an example, they were huge stereotypes, but they were trying, and I think that's what matters most, and as more and more progress is made in equality, I feel as though stereotypes will be less and less common as people are educated.

I don't think that stereotypes should be tolerated at all. If a news outlet goes by stereotypes then I think that they shouldn't be discredited. As for the question, like jimmy said it just like asking what cheek you want to get slapped, it's nonsense. Comments are closed.
