Steady Shoulders Discussion

8/27/2014

Discuss this quotation:

"To all those whose shoulders we stand on and lean on - may ours be as steady for the next generation."

Topics could include:
  • What have you learned from previous generations?
  • Do you think the world is better off or worse off than your parents or grandparents?
  • What kind of world do you envision leaving for your kids and grandkids?
  • What do we need to do TODAY to create "steady shoulders" for the next generation?

REMEMBER: Comments in discussions need to be detrespectful, include evidence and should link to facts

I feel this describes our society really well and it's a very good thing about society. It shows that in each generations there are roll models and it is very important that every generation gives off their own roll models so we can stand strong to build a better future.

I have learned from previous generations that ours is the worst. We are so judgmental in the smallest things like if the leather jacket i'm wearing is real or not. My Grandpa said that when he was my age the only thing people normally judged is if you couldn't do a keg stand (maybe he is joking) but, what i am trying to say is that this generation needs to learn how to learn what empathy means and we all need to sometimes have steady shoulders to lean on sometimes but it will be literally and utterly impossible if we end up all broken from this disturbing society.

What we need to do TODAY to provide strong role models, and strong goals for the next generation. There are people who cite celebrities like Miley Cyrus as an influence, and think that working at McDonald's is an okay thing to do for the rest of your life. I don't understand why we don't have role models as people like Martin Luther King. Or set goals as high as people like Alan Turing. We need to stand behind people no matter how outlandish their endeavor may be, because it's happened before. And it will happen again, and again.
