Atheists, Religion and Reindeer

Being an atheist is ok.
Being an atheist who shames religions and spirituality as silly is not ok.

Being religious is ok.
Being a homophobic, racist, mysogonist or otherwise hateful person in the name of your religion is not ok.

Being a reindeer is ok.
Bullying and excluding another reindeer because he has a shiny red nose is not ok.

Thoughts?

I completely agree with this statement. in every religion i have read into so far in my many sleepless and bored nights surfing the internet. not once have i found one that promotes hate, they have all promoted love and acceptance in their own way, and even if you are not a religious person it does not give you the right to trash other peoples religions. if you don't agree with a certain religion, don't follow it, don't believe in gay marriage? don't get one. accept everyone around you for who you are. what they do with their life has no impact on yours. it is there life and they should be allowed to live it the way they want to.

Dom, I also agree with the statement. One thing about your comment that caught my eye was when you wrote "if you don't agree with a certain religion, don't follow it, don't believe in gay marriage? don't get one." That statement is on point. Even though I am not religious I do question sometimes other things like science or something else. Some people do have their own god and I never judged someone because of their beliefs because I wouldn't want someone to judge how I believe too. Its okay to be religious, its okay to not be and its okay to follow your religion but I agree, its not okay to hurt other people because that's how your "religion is".

I agree completely. People should just not stick opinions in others faces and expect them to embrace something they don't want to do. Basically we can all agree that there is no excuse to be a jerk towards people because your religious or an atheist.

This is words to live by. Basically saying it's ok to do and be anything that makes you happy as long as you don't opress people or act rude to them. It's the way society should work for a happier future

It makes me sick that in this day and age so many reindeer have such a limited and unrealistic sense of beauty that they'd bully other reindeer over something as trivial as nose colour, and that they can't even see the beauty and usefulness of the glow.

In all seriousness though, I think this post is short, sweet, to the point, simple, easy to understand, and they even incorporate humour, which is a great way to educate people.

I spend a lot of time on the Internet, so unfortunately I come across the sort of hate this post describes an awful lot and also unfortunately, it often devolves into an "us vs them" debate where they just sit around insulting each other. It's really nice to see a post that recognizes that these aren't aspects of the beliefs, but merely some of the people who hold said beliefs, and calls everyone out on their own personal hogwash without implying anything about either belief system.

This is all so spot on jimmy! I feel that people should understand that religious people can be bashed just as much as athiests and that is very sad. Why cant we all just make a rainbow with candy and unicorns and be happy?

I agree with this post. All the online and offline hate needs to stop. Jim earlier mentioned how online it turns into mudslinging, people just insulting each other, and that is not right. I believe that it is right and fair to debate and discuss your beliefs with another party in a calm fashion. But not remotely in the way it happeno online

Haters gunna hate, my recomindation is to just shake it off... BUT state why they should stop being rude and offensive.
Telling someone they are a "stupid biggot" or an "offensive jerk" does not work. Just be honest on why you do not like their hate because in all honesty some people do not even know they are being hatefull.
